Stage set for Ktm-7 by-poll; elected representative to step-down

KATHMANDU: Federal Parliament member-elect from Kathmandu Constituency-7, Ram Bir Manandhar, is stepping down as a member of the House of Representatives.

Organising a presser today, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker formally announced that he has already submitted his resignation to the party. His resignation is coming in at a time when NCP (NCP) is doing its homework to make space for its senior leader Bam Dev Gautam as a member of parliament.

Left-alliance candidate Ram Bir Manandhar had defeated his closest contender, a joint candidate of the democratic alliance, by over 8,000 votes garnering 18,102 votes in the parliamentary elections held in December last year.

Nepali Congress had supported Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate Bikram Bahadur Thapa in the Federal Parliament elections. Thapa had received 10,097 votes.

Meanwhile, leader Gautam had lost to Nepali Congress’ Sanjay Kumar Gautam in the parliamentary election from Bardiya-1.

With this development, a by-election in the constituency is expected to be announced soon.
