Kathmandu, December 25
An undated statue of national luminary Sankhadhar Sakhwa was found below Paropakar bridge in Kalimati today.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City's municipal police had seen the statue inside a temporary settlement yesterday from where police recovered it upon knowing about its actual place.
The municipal police extracted the statue from the possession of a homeless old man who was living under the bridge. Referring to the old man, police said he had brought the statue with him after seeing it dumped in a pile of garbage.
Police, however, know nothing about how the statue reached there and how old it could be.
Sakhwa, who lived 1,100 years ago, was a philanthropist and is believed to have cleared the debts of Kathmandu valley residents.
