KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has unveiled a bust of the first man in space, Russian Astronaut Yuri Gagarin, at Shankhapark (Ratnapark).

KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya and astronaut Viktor Petrovich jointly unveiled the bust of Gagarin.

On the occasion, Mayor Shakya said that Shankhapark would be useful not only for entertainment but also for study, adding that opportunities have been created to exchange learning from Nepal’s diplomatic relations with Russia.

“The life of Gagarin, who entered the outer space at the age of 27, is an example of youth empowerment.”

Saying Russia was ready to provide technical support to Nepal for its development, Petrovich expressed his belief that the technical support would be useful for integrated development.

Gagarin had entered the outer space on April 12, 1961.
