Stress on 50 pc women participation

KATHMANDU: Women rights activists have demanded for 50 percent representation of women in the new government. According to them, as the total population of the country comprises of more than 50 percent of women the new government should comprise of at least 50 percent of women to ensure equal participation.

Sapana Pradhan Malla, Constituent Assembly member, informed that the women lawmakers have already begun to make necessary preparations to raise their voice against the present discrimination. Babita Basnet, chairperson of Sancharika Samuha stressed on the weakness of the government to implement its past laws relating to women rights. Although the government had committed 33 percent women’s participation in the CA, there are only about 197 women members out of 601 CA members.
