Strictly enforce poll code of conduct: EC

Election Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Shah today directed the local administration in Bhaktapur district to strictly enforce the election code of conduct.
During field inspection of the election campaigns in the district, Commissioner Shah also directed the officials to remove publicity materials put up by election candidates in public places.
Issuing a press release, EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal said Shah also took stock of preparation for the second phase of provincial and parliamentary elections and law and order situation from chief returning officer of Bhaktapur district.
Shah also visited Dudhpati, Bhaktapur Durbar Square area, Quachhen, Taumadi, Sukuldhoka and directed police and local administration to remove publicity materials of parties and candidates displayed at public places.
The poll panel said a team led by Shah was deployed in Bhaktapur after a complaint was lodged against election campaigns of political parties and their candidates.
The EC said the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party placed were found to have used more publicity materials than other parties.
Chief Returning Officer of Bhaktapur Bhoj Raj Sharma, Chief District Officer Drona Pokhrel, District Police Chief Kiran Rana, EC’s central monitor Padam Prasad Pandey, election officer Uttam Silwal, District Election Chief Umesh Kumar Rai was also present during inspection.
