Student unions announce stir programmes
Kathmandu, March 22:
The eight student unions affiliated to various political parties today announced a series of protest programmes to complement the general strike called by the seven political parties from April 6 to 9.
They are to hold promotional programmes for the movement from March 28 and activists and students’ meet from March 23 to 28.
The students have also decided to organise promotional street activities throughout the nation from March 28 to April 2. The student bodies will hold an interaction in all the campuses and educational institutions from April 2 to 4.
At a press conference here today, the student bodies said they will organise discussions with teachers, employees, Private and Boarding Schools Organisations Nepal and National Private and Boarding Schools Association Nepal regarding the restoration of democracy in the country.
The student bodies will also organise special ‘warm up’ programme from April 2 to 4. They also expressed solidarity to the students of the management faculty of the Tribhuvan University (TU) against the TU’s decision of curtail discount on books the students have been receiving and demanded that the authorities concerned should not curtail the facility.
They also appealed to both the Maoists and the state to keep all the violent activities out of educational institutions and maintain that ‘children and school as zones of peace’.
