Students hold protest rallies

Kathmandu, May 6:

The seven student unions today organised rallies in various parts of the Valley as protest against the shootout at Mahendranagar campus at a students’ meeting. They were also pressing for the fulfilment of their demands.

The students took out rallies from Patan, Ason, Baneshwor, Maitidevi, Samakhushi, Chabahil, Kirtipur, Tahachal and Baka Bazaar of Bhaktapur.

The rallying students shouted slogans like ‘Take action against the culprit’, ‘Provide compensation to the victims’ and ‘Probe Mahendranagar incident immediately’ and ‘Remove security personnel from campus premises’.

Their demands include restoration of democracy, removal of security personnel and government spies from all campuses, releasing of all political detainees, investigation into the Mahendranagar shootout and action against the culprit, releasing of political leaders forcefully detained by Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC), and

that students be allowed take part in political and educational activities in colleges.

The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) also condemned the delay in bringing the injured students to Kathmandu, and not being allowed to meet either their parents or human right activists at Nepalgunj airport today.
