Students lock TU principal’s office

Kathmandu, March 17:

The Kanti Hostel unit of the Nepal Students’ Union at the Tribhuvan University’s central campus in Kirtipur today locked the office of the principal of the campus for an indefinite period demanding the university implement a 14-point agreement reached between the students’ body and the campus administration afew months ago. The students also demanded the principal’s resignation.

The students also expressed dissatisfaction over the campus administration not inviting Free Students’ Union representative while laying the foundation stone for the construction of a building of a girls’ hostel today.

In a press release issued today, the NSU accused the principal’s office of involvement in financial embezzlement in the construction. “We are convinced that the warden is involved in pocketing Rs 35 lakh, which was collected from regularising the hostel for maintaining sanitation and developing physical infrastructure,” said Bhola Prasad Dangi, coordinator of the hostel committee of the union.
