“Symphathise with conflict victims’

Kathmandu, February 21

Conflict Victims Common Platform today issued a press statement saying the two transitional justice mechanisms Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons have not yet expressed their firm commitment to implementing the verdicts of the Supreme Court that barred them from granting amnesty in serious cases of human rights violations.

CVCP said the two transitional mechanisms did not hold any meaningful interactions with the conflict victims.

It said the members of the transitional mechanisms needed to sympathise with the conflict victims but they had acted as teachers in some districts.

It said the two transitional mechanisms did not consult the conflict victims about various aspects of transitional justice.

It said the one year works of the two bodies had weakened the basis of truth and justice and therefore conflict victims were worried about the efficacy of the bodies.
