‘Talks with UDMF inconclusive, yet positive’
KATHMANDU: The dialogues held between major three parties’ talks team and the protesting United Democratic Government Front (UDMF) on Thursday, ended inconclusively.
The leaders, however, said that the talks were positive.
UCPN-Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha told THT Online over phone that the three parties urged Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur-led UDMF team to stop protests at border points to continue the talks.
“We don’t ask you to stop your entire protest,” Shrestha quoted the government team as telling the Madhesi leader, “But, you should stop demonstrations at border points and blocking cargo vehicles.”
The UDMF team, however, said the conditions they put forth earlier have to be addressed for talks.
The talks will continue tomorrow, according to Shrestha.
Along with Shrestha, CPN-UML Chief Whip Agni Prasad Kharel and Nepali Congress leader, also the Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation, Mahesh Acharya, had reached TMDP office in Bijuli Bazaar for the talks.
