Teachers stage sit-in

KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Teachers’ Organisation, teachers group affiliated with the UCPN-Maoist, staged a sit-in in front of the three District Education Offices — Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur — today.

The teachers’ protest began at 9am and lasted for six hours till 3pm disrupting all regular work of the DEOs.

Guna Raj Lohani, president of the ANTO, told this daily that they had staged the sit-in to pressure the government as their demands were not addressed till now.

He said they had protested to pressure the government to implement the past agreements reached between the teachers and the government. They are also demanding the implementation of the recommendation made by the taskforce formed with the coordination of Janardan Nepal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Education for the welfare of the education sector.
