Teenage girl found dead at Gaushala guesthouse

KATHMANDU: A teenage girl was found dead in a room of a Gaushala-based guesthouse of the Capital on Thursday.

The body of Soniya Shrestha (18) from Pattharkot-5 of Sarlahi district was recovered from a room of Gaushala Guest House in Gaushala, KMC-9.

Avinash Thing, 27, of Mahakali-9, Sindhuli, currently residing in Pattharkot-3, of Sarlahi, had fled after strangling Soniya to death in room no 118 of Gaushala Guest House at around 8:00am.

Police said Shrestha along with Abinash had checked in the room on Wednesday evening.

After the man only left the room without informing anything to the hotel operator today, the operator had called police to look into the case. Police launched a massive manhunt for the suspect.

Thing was been arrested from the Sinamangal-based Kathmandu Medical College Hospital within two hours thanks to a special technical investigation.

DSP Surendra Prasad Mainali, MPC in-charge, who led the investigation, said an illicit relationship between Thing and Shrestha had led to the horrendous murder.

Shrestha had lived in her maternal grandfather’s house in Sindhuli for the past few years to pursue her schooling and Thing was a domestic help there. “Their intimacy grew strong in recent years and the duo arrived in Kathmandu from Sindhuli on Monday and stayed at a hotel in Swoyambhu for one night before switching to the guest house in Gaushala yesterday.

As Shrestha pressed Thing to divorce his wife and marry her, he decided to murder her and strangled her to death in the guest house room,” he informed adding, Thing and Shrestha were having an illicit relationship for the past three years. Thing has conceded to killing Shrestha. He faces murder charge.
