Temporary teachers gherao MoE
KATHMANDU: Around 500 temporary teachers today staged peaceful sit-in in front of
the Ministry of Education (MoE) to press the government for fulfilling their demands.
The temporary teachers had arrived to Kathmandu from different parts of the country. They assembled at Ratna Park before marching to the MoE for the sit-in.
Dinesh Thapa, general secretary, Temporary Teachers Protest Central Committee said that the protest programme was organised to pressure the authorities to revoke the agreement made between the teachers’ union and the government on October 28.
He said, “We have been agitating against the
government to give permanent status to the temporary teachers through
internal competition but the agreement mentions that the temporary teachers would have to sit for open competition.”
He, however, noted that despite phases of protest programme, the government had failed to address their demands so severe protest programme was pertinent.
“We will announce our new protest programme but that will depend on the country’s political development,” he added.
