3 Chinese, 1 Nepali held with foreign currencies worth Rs 47 m

KATHMANDU: Police said the value of illegal foreign currencies found from three Chinese nationals this morning was NRs 47.113 million.

They also arrested a Nepali man, Pemba Tamang (39), from Rasuwa district, who helped the trio as a driver, the Metropolitan Crime Division informed in a statement today.

Acting on a tip-off, police had intercepted the Scorpio (Ba 1 Ya 1232) while they were trying to exit the Kathmandu Valley with the illegal cash.

During the search, police had found out eight foreign currencies--US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar and Swiss Franc--hidden inside suitcases and handbags.


3 Chinese held with illegal currencies worth Rs 44 m

KATHMANDU: Police arrested three Chinese nationals, including two women, in possession of a huge cache of illegal foreign currencies from Nagdhunga of Kathmandu on Saturday.

According to SSP Sarvendra Khanal, Chief of the Metropolitan Crime Division, the seized amount was equal to around NRs 44 million.

The trio were carrying around 260,000 USD, around 118,000 Euro and some amounts of Canadian Dollars, Francs and Australian Dollars when they were arrested at 2:30 am today.

They were arrested while they were exiting the Kathmandu Valley on a private vehicle.

The arrested trio are being interrogated at the MCD with the help of interpreters.
