Three held for drug, arm smuggling
KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday arrested three members of a gang, who were allegedly involved in smuggling of drugs and weapons.
A team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested Ram Chandra Thapa (45) from Teku, KMC-12 while his mates Narayan Shrestha (31) and Deepak Sapkota (39) were detained from Mahalaxmisthan of Lalitpur.
Police confiscated a US-made pistol and two rounds of its bullets from Thapa.
Likewise, as many as 300 tablets of lorazepam, a controlled drug, were seized from the Shrestha-Sapkota duo.
Police investigations revealed that Sapkota and Thapa were convicts of murder and theft cases respectively.
They had met each other during their time at the Ramechhap District Prison and had agreed to carry out arm smuggling activities after the release, police added. Shrestha is a brother-in-law of Thapa and a runaway policeman.
Sapkota and Thapa were released from the jail only last year.
All three of them were sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, for further investigation, police said.
