Three held for running fake certificate racket

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Cirme Division has busted a forgery racket involving three persons and seized a huge cache of fake government seals and signatures, recently.

The case came to the fore after one of the suspects Khuman Singh Thapa submitted his fake documents for verification at the Tripureshwor-based Department of Consular Services.

Issuing a press statement today, MCD said a police team led by Police Inspector Anil Kumar Ghimire apprehended Arjun Adhikari (31) of Chitwan district, Khuman Singh Thapa (26) of Gulmi district and Bal Bahadur Rawat 36) of Salyan district from assorted locations in Kathmandu valley.

Earlier, Arjun Adhikari and Bal Bahadur Rawat had assisted Khuman Singh Thapa in making fake documents, before running a racket, according to police.

It has been learned that the middle man used to charge up to Rs 4,00,000 for obtaining fake documents from them.

In a statement, MCD said they had produced fake academic certificates, driving licences, bank statements, birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates using government fake seal and signatures, holograms among others.

Police also seized 91 stamps of Tribhuvan University, 412 holograms of TU, 43 stamps of Higher Secondary Education Council, 23,200 holograms of HSEC, 88 stamps of various schools, 91 fake government seal and signatures, 181 various certificates, fake driving licences, various banks statements, computer set, fake police report certificates and Rs 150,000 in cash.

As per the existing law, one year jail term for using fake government seal and signatures.
