Three weeks on, stolen govt vehicle yet to surface
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley has become a safe haven for stolen vehicles.
In a latest wave of robbery, the burglars mysteriously broke into a heavily guarded Trolley Bus Office in Minbhavan and stole a government vehicle - TATA Sumo, registered as Ba 4 Cha 644.
The vehicle, which belongs to Kathmandu Metropolitan City, was stolen
three weeks ago even as the office had an intimidating presence of the security guards and the cadres of the Young Communist League.
Since 20 days, the vehicle has been plying about the streets of Kathmandu and the traffic police have been chasing it without any success.
The brown- coloured TATA Sumo was conspicuously missing on Saturday night. “The KMC staff had lodged the complaint
to the police on Sunday
but the later is yet to grab hold of it,” said Deepak Koirala, assistant executive of the KMC, who was using the vehicle.
The vehicle was parked at the Trolley Bus office in Minbhawan that night after dropping off Koirala at his residence in Sinamangal.
Koirala, cited eyewitness accounts as saying that the vehicle was spotted a while ago - roughly a week - but the police have no clue yet as to the whereabouts of the car.
The only clue available was that someone special is using the vehicle but the veracity of the statement could not be ascertained, according to Koirala.
