What’s fixed

Kathmandu, December 11:

Repairing of the 700-metre-long Patan Dhoka-Kwalkhu-Patko road took more than six months to complete. Thanks to the internal disputes between the contractor, the locals and the Lalitpur Sub-metropolis City (LSMC) office.

The LSMC had allocated Rs 800,000 for repairing the road and a road user’s committee was formed in June under the leadership of Bhaju Ratna Shakya, Narayan Hari Maharjan secretary of ward - 16 in LSMC said.

“Initially it was planned that the repair works would be completed within a month and the fund of Rs 250,000 was released as the first instalment to contractor Suresh Maharjan,” Narayan Hari said.

The work was delayed by a month due to the monsoon.

“Finally reconstruction started but the contractor did not follow the agreement. Instead of patching up the potholes on the road, the contractor bulldozed the whole stretch of the road,” he said.

“The locals took it as an opportunity to fix their water supply and sewage pipelines and this further delayed the works,” said Bhaju Ratna Shakya, chairperson of users’ committee.

And now finally the road is ready.

Who fixed it

We formed a comsumers’ group in the locality and met the municipality authorities and put forward our proposal for repairing the road. When there was obstruction in the construction work we again visited the LSMC and convinced the officials there of our plan and we were able to receive the required fund from the office. Now the road is constructed.
