Top leaders one about holding FSU polls on time

KATHMANDU: Top leaders of major three political parties have assured the Tribhuvan University that the parties and their student wings were ready to hold the Free Student Union polls on February 25 as scheduled.

At a meeting with the TU Vice-Chancellor Tirtha Raj Khaniya among other officials, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Prime Minister, CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said they were for holding the polls, overdue for last eight years, on time.

Student union leaders aligned to the major three parties were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the meeting, PM Dahal said the government would extend all the needful support to the TU to hold the polls on time.

"The FSU polls would create a psychological effect and it would ultimately lead the nation towards local polls," he said, "All the disagreements should be ended and the elections should be held."

Likewise, Deuba said he would instruct student union leaders of his party not to create any obstruction in the election process.

Oli, on the other hand, argued that the elections should be held on time as its postponement would affect the party's Mechi-Mahakali campaign which would begin soon.
