Toran on duty regardless of apex court stay order

KATHMANDU: Despite the Supreme Court's stay order on elevation, Lt General Toran Jung Bahadur Singh's elevation has been regularly attending the office and doing his duty in the capacity of Lt General, said a high-ranking Nepali Army officer today.

He further reasoned that SC's stay order was not the final decision so there was no any need to stop him from working. "The government also has not given any direction to NA to stop him from doing his job. We stand ready to do what the government directs,” he said. Claiming that since the decision to appoint him was already implemented, they can not implement the SC's order.

Likewise, Ministry of Defence is busy consulting with legal experts as to how to respond to SC's stay order. "The ministry is doing necessary homework about this and is ready to respect and implement the SC’s stay order," an official said, requesting anonymity.
