Trade union poll put off

KATHMANDU: The government on Tuesday decided to postpone the election of the authentic trade union scheduled for April 22 under pressure from one of the major ruling coalition partners Unified CPN-Maoist.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Baluwatar decided to postpone the election. Minister for Information and Communications and government spokesperson Sherdhan Rai said the election would be held on June 1.

The proposal to postpone polls was tabled at a Cabinet meeting by Minister for Labour and Employment Dipak Bohora.

This is the second time the government postponed the election of the trade union after the four among the seven organisations opposed the election.
