ML 5.5 tremor jolts western, central Nepal at midnight; epicentre in Gorkha

KATHMANDU: A moderate tremor jolted the western and central Nepal including the Kathmandu Valley and adjoining districts at around 11:54  pm on Sunday midnight.

The National Seismological Centre said it was an aftershock of the April 25 earthquake. It was of local magnitude 5.5 and epicentred in Gorkha district.

The coordinates of the location where the tremor originated are given as 28.08°N, 84.76°E.

After the devastating April 25 earthquake of ML 7.6, the National Seismological Centre has recorded as many as 434 aftershocks of local magnitude 4.0 or above till today.

The NSC had recorded an ML 5.5 aftershock with its epicentre in Sindhupalchok district on February 5 after May 16 last year.
