TU degrees conferred on 4,783
Kirtipur, November 22:
On the occasion of its 32nd convocation, the Tribhuvan University (TU) today conferred Bachelors and Masters’ degrees on 4,783 students and doctorate degree (PhD) on 28 students. Pawan Kumar Thapa of the Pulchowk Campus got the Chancellor’s Award and Ram Prasad Manandhar Award. Thapa had scored 92.7 per cent in the Masters’ level examinations.
With the aim of producing skilled and competitive manpower, the Tribhuvan University (TU) is introducing various new programmes from the next academic year, the TU vice-chancellor, Professor Dr Govind Prasad Sharma, said today.
“The TU is introducing Masters in conflict management, biotechnology and MBA,” Sharma said. The TU will start BSc in Nursing from the next academic year, he said. “The TU has made preparations to transfer credit of foreign universities’ degrees from the students exchange programme as non-credit transfer policy of the university has hit students hard.”
Nepali education must modernise itself, Prof GK Chadha, former vice-chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, said, adding: “Good education does not destroy historical roots and cultural affinities, it builds on them. Education does not, and should not, grow in a vacuum.”
