TU students to face new pattern of questions

The Tribhuvan University (TU) Academic Council, in its recently held 13th general assembly, endorsed changes in the format of question papers for different levels.

Professor Dr Govind Prasad Sharma, vice-chancellor of TU, said the change in the format of question papers was necessary to enable TU students secure higher marks as compared to what they have been scoring.

“The pass percentage of students in the TU is very low and students secure low percentages as compared to those from other universities, resulting in our students lagging

behind during various competitions,” he said. He also said the TU would have to face financial hurdles even this year just like last year.

The meeting also proposed that the degree of Post Graduate Diploma in American Studies be referred to as Post Graduate Diploma in Nepal-American Studies and endorsed various models of degree certifications from various institutions.

The academic council meeting also nominated Prof Dr Bhola Raj Joshi, Prof Dr Mohan Prasad Lohani, Prof Keshabananda Giri, Prof Dr Devi Datta Poudel from the subject committees and Prof Kanak Bikram Thapa from Dean, for the Academic Council Permanent Committee.

According to the Information Unit at TU, Professor Dr Mahendra Singh presented the annual report during the Academic Council meeting.

Meanwhile, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has increased grant to the various community campuses by 10 per cent, it was stated. According to Professor Dr Bidur Prasad Upadhyaya, chairman of UGC, 12 more community campuses under TU will receive the grant from Rs 90,000 to maximum of Rs 100,000 depending upon the various programmes run by them.
