TU teachers’ pen-down

Kathmandu, August 8:

Tribhuvan University Teachers’ Association (TUTA) today appealed to university teachers across the country to stage a pen-down on Sunday to protest the killing of lecturer Mahendra Mahato.

The pen-down was called during an interaction among TUTA office-bearers.

Mahato was taken out of his house on Saturday and shot. He died in the course of treatment on Monday.

A lecturer at the Dhankuta Multiple Campus, Mahato had been deputed at the Rajbiraj-based Mahendra Bindeshwori Multiple Campus. TUTA has demanded compensation for the victim’s family.

In the interaction, professors expressed concern about the deferral of TUTA’s general convention. They said the process for promotion of TU teachers had been affected due to indifference of the TU Service Commission.

TUTA central committee member Maheshwor Prasad Upadhyaya said an agreement had been reached between the commission and the association to start the process for promotion of teachers.
