TU to shift two campuses to Kirtipur

KATHMANDU, July 17

Tribhuvan University has shifted its two constituent campuses — Lalit Kala Campus of Bhotahiti and Jana Prasasan Campus of Jamal — to Kirtipur.

Lalit Kala Campus located in the heart of Kathmandu was completely flattened by the earthquake on April 25 while Jana Prasasan Campus was damaged. TU has relocated the two campuses to TU premises, said Govinda Bahadur Pradhan, Executive Secretary, Office of the Senate and Executive Council, TU.

Currently, Lalit Kala Campus is running classes in a building near the Office of the Vice Chancellor while Jana Prasasan Campus is teaching students in a new building constructed near the Research Centre for Educational, Innovation and Development in Balkhu.

“TU is going to construct prefab houses for Lalit Kala Campus on TU premises very soon,” said Pradhan.

Earlier, students of Lalit Kala Campus had asked the TU administration to relocate the campus to an open space. TU has decided to build prefab houses on the TU premises in Kirtipur.

TU has already built a concrete building for Jana Prashasan Campus in Balkhu.

According to TU sources, the university is also doing homework to relocate Amrit Science Campus of Lainchaur, stating that it was in the heart of the city and the noise of vehicles was disturbing students.

However, Amrit Science Campus administration on Friday said that it was just a rumour. It said that no formal decision had been taken regarding relocating the college.

Rajesh Majahu, campus chief, Amrit Science Campus, said, “We have not received any formal decision regarding relocating our campus.”

He said that the earthquake has slightly damaged walls, the auditorium hall and few other structures, but the building as a whole was safe to run classes.
