Two held for hooch smuggling, penalised Rs 58,000

KATHMANDU: Two persons, including a taxi driver, were arrested for their involvement in homemade alcohol smuggling from Godavari Muncipality-9, on the outskirts of Lalitpur district, on Tuesday.

They were sent to the Inland Revenue Office for action where they were slapped with a penalty of Rs 58,000, the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur said.

According to police, a mobile patrol team had intercepted a taxi near a forested area in Kodu at around 5:30 am and seized 180 litres of hooch.

Those taken in custody are Ekalal Tamang, the taxi driver, and Chini Maya Tamang. The later was taking the hooch to local market.

Both of them hail from Bhardev of Lalitpur.
