UDMF to support Koirala in PM election, not to join govt though

KATHMANDU: The United Democratic Madhesi Front, consisting of four Madhes-based parties, has decided to support Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala in the prime ministerial election.

The UDMF, however, would not join the government, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party leader Sarvendra Nath Shukla told media before the House meeting.

The alliance consists of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Sadbhawana Party and Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party.

"We are casting votes against the extreme leftists," Shukla said, adding that the parties had boycotted the Constituent Assembly and not the House.

They collectively have more than 36 seats in the Parliament.
