UML finalises basis for picking nominees for Upper House

The CPN-UML today finalised criteria for fielding its candidates for the National Assembly election scheduled to be held on February 7.

According to a press release issued by the UML, the party will field candidates who meet the constitutional requirement. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their contributions to the party and special contributions in the field of social service, culture, art, literature, science and technology while maintaining affiliation with the party, the release stated.

The party also said that it would maintain geographical and social balance while naming its candidates and added that leaders who had not contested local, provincial and parliamentary elections would be fielded for the NA polls.

The release stated  that province organisation committees of the party should send the list of the probable candidates by January 19. It also instructed POCs to impart training to the party’s representatives, who will be members of the Electoral College for NA election.

The party has urged the government to distribute relief to those affected by cold wave conditions in the Tarai. The UML also instructed its lower chapters to provide relief in the areas affected by cold wave and viral fever.
