Kathmandu, July 16:
A host of speakers at an interaction organised by the Nepal Buddhijibi Samparka and Bichar Manch opined that security situation had improved in the Valley after the February 1 royal takeover. Stating that security situation in the Valley has improved remarkably after the takeover, Dr Shekhar Gurung, the Bagmati zonal administrator, said, “The improving security situation is an indication that the country will prosper if we get united under the leadership of the King,” he argued, asking all to help the government conduct municipal polls at the earliest.
Sthaneshwor Devkota, the chief district officer of Lalitpur, said security situation in the Maoist-affected southern Lalitpur had gotten better. “Incidents of bomb blasts and killings, which had become a regular phenomenon, have gone down dramatically.” However, he admitted that laxity on the part of government officials was one of the reasons for violence. Netra Prasad Neupane, the acting chief district officer of Kathmandu, said there was a better coordination between government employees, political parties, civic society members, and the media.
“Civil servants’ performance has improved and every commoner’s job is being done at the earliest. Everything is going on smoothly.” The deputy superintendent of police at the Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, Moti Singh Dhami, said 54 people were killed and over 200 explosions occurred in the Valley before the Royal takeover. “No one has been killed in violence ever since the King took over,” he said, adding that number of crimes had gone down.
