Veep Pun admitted to Norvic, electrolyte disorder diagnosed

KATHMANDU: Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has been admitted to the Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu. He has been primarily diagnosed with low sodium and potassium levels.

Pun, who is in his early 50s, was taken to the Thapathali-based facility on Sunday night as he suffered from fever, vertigo and vomiting, which were the symptoms of electrolyte disorder, for some days.

Earlier in 2012, Pun suffered from kidney failure and was treated in Nepal as he refused to go abroad for treatment.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara went to see Pun at the hospital today.

Pun's personal doctor, Shivaji Silwal, is coordinating with other doctors at the hospital for Pun's treatment, according to Norvic's Media Manager RP Mainali.

Pun's aide Manoj Gharti Magar, on his Facebook post, has also mentioned that Dr Madhu Ghimire is also involved in the treatment.

Pun had worked as the commander of the Maoist party's People's Liberation Army from 2008 till the conclusion of the army integration process.

He had contested in the second Constituent Assembly elections from Kathmandu-4 in November 2013. He, however, was defeated by popular Nepali Congress leader Gagan Kumar Thapa.

The Parliament had elected him the Vice-President in October 2015 with the support of the CPN-UML and the then UCPN-Maoist.

Before his election to the post of Vice-President, he had never taken any office of benefit from the state.
