Vehicular homicide convict arrested after 21 years

KATHMANDU: Police said on Wednesday that they have arrested a man, who was convicted of vehicular homicide in 1994 but was on the run for over 21 years.

The Kathmandu District Court had held Ganesh Bahadur Tandukar, who was driving a three-wheeler, responsible for the death of 51-year-old Ram Kumar Jeevan after an accident.

The tempo that Tandukar drove had hit Jeevan, who was on foot, at Chabahil-Maharajgunj road section in the evening of August 7, 1994.

Critically injured in the accident, Jeevan died at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital the following day during the course of treatment.

The District Court had slapped a two-year term on Tandukar, a permanent resident of Bhimsengola-35, on January 24, 1995.

He, however, had been avoiding the law enforcement agencies. He was arrested from Bhimsengola today.

Police said Tandukar has been sent to the Dillibazaar prison for the execution of the sentence.
