Vehicular homicide convict held after 2 years
KATHMANDU: A special team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested an absconding vehicular homicide convict from Kapan of Kathmandu on Sunday.
Govinda Shrestha (20) was convicted in the case by the Kathmandu District Court on July 16, 2014 and sent to two years in prison and fined Rs 2,000.
He, however, was on the run since then.
Police meanwhile presented the convict before the Kathmandu District Court today, which sent Shrestha to Dillibazar Prison for execution of the sentence.
Shrestha had hit and seriously injured a minor, Sarina Kalikote, while driving a mini-truck (Ba 1 Kha 4167) without acquiring a valid driving licence, at a road section in Kharibot, Kapan-1 on November 4, 2013.
Kalikote had succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the Chabahil-based OM Hospital.
