Vice-President elect Pun calls on Maoist Chair Dahal to express gratitude

KATHMANDU: Newly elected Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun on Saturday evening called on UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal's residence in Lazimpat to thank the latter for the higher constitutional berth.

The Parliament elected Pun, who was the candidate of the ruling coalition, as Nepal's second Vice-President through voting this afternoon.

The commander of former Maoist rebels, Pun had reached Lazimpat directly from the Parliament premises after being elected to the post to personally express his gratitude to the Maoist boss.

The Vice-President elect, however, is expected to give up the party position including the general membership, to maintain the neutrality of his position now.

Leaders and cadres of the Maoist party had gathered at Dahal residence to congratulate their comrade for the prestigious state position.

Dahal along with his wife Sita welcomed Pun offering him marigold garlands. Maoist General Secretary Krishna Bahadur was also present at Dahal's residence.

Earlier, the Parliament Secretariat had also organised a brief function to congratulate the newly elected Vice-President, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

Some sister organisations of the Maoist party also lighted lamps to celebrate their leader's victory, at New Baneshwor Chok today.
