Violence should have no place, says PM

KATHMANDU: On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, today, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal declared that the year 2010 would be the year against gender violence. The PM urged for violence free society stating that no one should be a victim of violence in new Nepal. He also urged the political parties to end gender discrimination within their party lines.

Meanwhile, working procedure to mark the year was also made public. A total budget of Rs 2.1 billion has been estimated for the programme throughout the year. National Women Commission informed that they are running awareness programme nationwide for the same. A hot line 1111 at the PM's office would be available to register complaints. A monitoring committee would be set up too.

Furthermore, it was informed that one out of three women in Nepal was a victim of violence in any of the forms; physical, mental or sexual.
