Woman dumps newborn in Bagmati; police rescue child, nab mom

KATHMANDU: A 22-year-old woman was arrested while she was running away after dumping her four-day-old child in Bagmati River, on Thursday.

Kanchhi Maya Tamang from Gokule-5 of Kavrepalanchok district had kept her newborn son in a bag and left him in the River at Aryaghat of Pashupati area today.

A team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala, however, nabbed her while running away.

Police found that the child was also alive. Hence, they rushed both mother and child to Thapathali-based Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital.

Further investigations into the case are underway.
