Women take part in conflict meet
KATHMANDU: Around 42 women from 20 conflict-affected countries are taking part in a training here to share their know-how on post-conflict management.
Dr Renu Rajbhandari, President, Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC), said that the training with the theme, ‘Human Rights Security and Participation’, is expected to build a critical mass of women with adequate skills in areas such as human rights, peace building, negotiation skills and documentation. She was addressing the programme today jointly organised by Isis-Women’s International Cross Cultural Exchange and WOREC. “The training will bring to light the issues of vulnerable communities,” she said.
Dr Bhandari further said that the training would be helpful in exploring how to cope up with difficult situation and learn best practices that can be replicated at the community level.
“Women and children are the most vulnerable group effected by conflict,” Dr Bhandari said, adding, “Sexual and gender-based violence is rampant in such a situation that leaves deep physical and physiological impact on the survivors, their families and communities.”
According to an estimate, women constitute a majority of the 85 per cent civilian victims in armed conflict.
