Kathmandu, April 24:

An interaction was organised today to mark the World Veterinary Day in the Nepal Veterinary Complex, Tripureswore, by various organisations working in the field of animal health.

Speakers raised concern over the increasing violation of animal rights. "Food security, bio-diversity and public health are closely related to veterinary services," said Nil Prakash Singh Karki, former president of the Nepal Veterinary Association (NVA).

Dr Durga Dutta Joshi, president of Nepal Veterinary Council (NVC) said, "Random killing of animals in the name of epidemic control will invite a huge environmental problem." Director of Department of Livestocks Services, SN Mahatoo, said, "Veterinary is a multi-dimensional subject which not only deals with the animals, but also food, bio-diversity and human health."

He emphasised the need to develop a curriculum according to international standards.
