YCL to stage nationwide stir
KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist affiliated Young Communist League is planning to stage nationwide protests against President Dr Ram Baran Yadav’s move to reinstate Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal.
Speaking at an interaction programme, Ganesh Man Pun ‘Sagar’, president of YCL, said the local YCL cadres were being apprised of the latest political developments. Sagar added, “We will first educate our cadres about the President’s ‘unconstitutional’ move, increasing foreign interference and formation of the new government against popular mandate.”
Stating that the YCL would fight till the end to establish civilian supremacy, Sagar said youths would be mobilised across the nation to protest the President’s move. He, however, said the protests would be held in a peaceful manner.
“Our main agenda is establishment of peace and writing of the new constitution,” he said, adding that the President and the new government had belittled the contribution of the youths to bring about political changes in the country.
Central committee member of CPN-UML, Gorkana Bista underlined the need for broader consensus among the political parties to move ahead. He said, “The peace process cannot move ahead if we sideline the Maoists.”
