Youth arrested for cyber crime

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Friday arrested a man from Gongabu on charge of committing cyber crime. Barun Thapa, 29, of Darjeeling, India, had allegedly posted a woman’s objectionable video clips on various porn sites. Thapa has been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, to prosecute him under the Electronic Transaction Act, 2008.

Fraud detained

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday nabbed Deepak Chhetri, 30, of Makawanpur for allegedly defrauding a woman of Rs 800,000, a gold chain and a gold ring with a false promise to make her a partner of his herb business. Officials said he had swindled Lekha Gharti of Tulsipur-1, Dang, of the cash and other belongings. He had lured Gharti into proving him money and gold ornaments, saying that the profits made from the business will be equally shared between them. Following a complaint lodged by the victim, the MPCD arrested Chhetri from Bafal.

Body found

KATHMANDU: A 20-year-old man was found dead at Basuki Chowk in Nayabasti, Gokarneshwor, on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Bishnu Prasad Tripathi of Deurali-3, Kartike, of Kavre. He was found dead at an auto workshop of Anil Shrestha on Friday, police said. The body has been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj for post-mortem. Police said they were yet to ascertain the cause of the death. We have launched an investigation into the incident, said police.
