Youth nabbed for collecting money for Melamchi

A youth who was collecting money from the people of Kathmandu Valley for joining the Melamchi project’s tap was nabbed by metropolitan police station Kamalpokhari in collaboration with the Project Implementation Directorate of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL).
According to PID, 30-year-old Dhiraj Thapa, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City was booked with fake bill pads and documents related Melamchi.
It is said he had collected Rs 64,000 from the locals of Kathmandu. He used to give fake bills to locals after collecting money. He had collected Rs 2,000 per person from Naxal-based Kishor Kumar Adhikari, Basanta Kumar Gautam, Badri Prasad Neupane, Dwarika Prasad Neupane and Usha Giri.
It is know that he had collected Rs 54,000 from Sachit Kumar Misra alone several times in the name of fitting water tap and sewage.
Deputy Project Director of PID Anil Bhadra Khanal said he had returned all the collected money and that PID had settled the matter in collaboration with the police.
He urged all to inform the PID office if any person tried to collect money in the name of Melamchi.
