Youths staging hunger strike demanding jobs

Kathmandu, April 30

The health condition of youths, who have been staging fast-unto-death in Khula Manch since Wednesday demanding employment, is worsening by the day.

The agitating youths have at least obtained a bachelor’s degree, but are unemployed. As they have refrained from taking food, some of the agitators are facing critical heath problems, according to the doctors attending to them.

Issuing a press statement today, the youths claimed that the government had failed to provide jobs to thousands of qualified and educated people. As many as 12 youths have been staging hunger strike. They have demanded that the government provide jobs to them depending on their qualifications, skill and efficiency.

They have also demanded that the government grant them subsidised loan by accepting their academic certificates as collateral to create an environment of self-employment if it cannot guarantee employment.
