Kathmandu to host Film Southasia on Nov 19-22

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu will host the next edition of Film Southasia, a regional biennial documentary festival, after two weeks.

The four-day festival will begin on November 19 at Yala Maya Kendra, Patan Dhoka.

Famed Indian movie director Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be chief guest of the function.

Gopalakrishnan is the winner of various awards including the Padma Vibhushan, the Padma Shri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

The popular director will interact with film professionals of Nepal during the festival, informed the organisers.

Likewise, he will give a lecture on the status of independent films in Malayalam film industry.

"Academically, Gopalakrishnan is a legendary director of Indian film industry," Anup Subedi, Chairman of the Nepal Independent Filmmakers Society, said, "Nepali film professionals can learn a lot from him."

Meanwhile, the Society said it would hold parallel discussions on themes of the documentaries presented in the festival.

The festival is featuring 35 documentaries in this edition.

Previous editions of the festival were graced by Gulzar, Shyam Benegal, Shabana Azmi and Mahesh Bhatt among others as chief guests.
