Photo Gallery: 'Chaaku' being produced in full swing

Kathmandu, January 07

A person whips the hard-boiled Chaaku (molasses) for the upcoming Maghe Sankranti festival, at Tokha, in Kathmandu, on Thursday.

Food is linked with festivals and festivals in turn are linked with seasons they come in. For instance, Maghe Sankranti falls in winter and it is during this time we consume chhaku with ghiu (ghee), the combination of which strengthens our bodies, and provides necessary nutrients to fight the cold.

After the Chaaku is made, it is then packed for public consumption.
