The event was part of the bicentenary celebrations of Nepali Gurkha soldiers in the British armed forces. Since first serving as part of the army in British-run India in 1815, they have built a reputation for ferocity, loyalty and razor-sharp khukuri fighting knives and 26 of their members have been awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest military award for bravery.
