?Vandalism, arson attacks in Saptari during UDMF's strike

RAJBIRAJ: The cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front vandalised the National Human Rights Commission's vehicle in Saptari district today.

They pelted stones at the jeep (Ba 7 Cha 7473) and attempted to set it on fire though an NHRC official was inside the four-wheeler, at Rajbiraj Chok.

Police said four persons, who were on the rights watchdog's vehicle, were rescued and taken to safety. The NHRC vehicle had gone to monitor general strike imposed by the UDMF.

Similarly, the protesters threw stones at the offices of Rajbiraj Municipality, Nepal Telecom Office in Rajbiraj.

A group of protesters set ablaze a truck ferrying food grains at Raghunathpur along the East-West Highway last night.

According to DSP Hira Bahadur Pandey of the Lahan Area Police Office, the truck (Na 4 Kha 207) was heading to Birgunj from Siraha when participants of a torch rally stopped it for the arson.

Golbazaar Area Police Office informed that a truck with Indian number plate (WB 52 A 4013) was set on fire by the UDMF cadres in Siraha district.

Tarai districts have remained tense today due to the two-day strike called by the UDMF after a clash between them and the police personnel yesterday claimed lives of their cadres in Saptari.
