1 killed, 5 injured in Tanahun accident

DAMAULI: At least one person was killed and five others sustained injuries in a bus-jeep collision at Gunadi in Myade Rural Municipality-1 of Tanahun district, on Sunday.

According to Spokesperson at District Police Office (DPO), Tanahun, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lila Raj Lamichhane, the jeep driver, Ramesh Tharu, 25, of Tilakpur in Nawalparasi district, died while undergoing treatment at Damauli Hospital this afternoon.

The incident occurred when the bus (Ga 1 Kha 4022) heading to Damauli from Pokhara collided head-on with a Bolero jeep (Lu 1 Cha 7041), laden with banana, coming from the opposite direction at Gunadi along Damauli--Khairenitar of Prithvi Highway today.

Assistant-Inspector Purna Bahadur Adhikari, in-charge at District Traffic Office, Tanahun said, "The fatal accident happened after the two speeding vehicles lost control near a narrow road stretch in the area."

Among the injured, the bus driver has been referred to Pokhara-based Manipal Hospital after receiving primary treatment at Ratnahari Hospital in Damauli, Adhikari shared.

However, other injured persons have been discharged from the hospital today itself after treatment, police said.

Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
