10 houses for Dalit victims

POKHARA: After the quake of April 25 destroyed his house, Rishi Ram Pariyar and his family were left in the lurch at Arba of Pokhara Sub-metropolitan City.

Rishi Ram, a tiller with a seven-member family, had lost all hope of building a house again.

It was at this point that Darshan Lama, chairman of Sajha Youth Club appeared as a savior after he started constructing 10 houses, including one for Rishi Ram. Lama and his friends started building three-room buildings of zinc sheets and blocks.

Lama said they had started building ten houses at a cost of Rs 3.5 million. As many as 46 houses had collapsed in the area. Lama said his group decided to build for the 10 impoverished ten Dalit families.

Lama had collected cash and materials from Hope Initiative, Fishtail Football Club and Sister Foundation to construct houses for the Dalit community.
