10 Humla senior citizens die of cough, cold in 1 month

HUMLA: At least 10 senior citizens died of cough and common cold in Humla district in past one month, according to the District Health Office.

Raya and Syada VDCs of the district reported five deaths in each for the want of timely medication and treatment after April first week.

The villages are around a day walk from the district headquarters.

DHO Information Officer Naresh Shrestha said the victims were above the age of 60. He, however, refused to consider the spread of diseases as an 'epidemic'.

Syada Health Post In-Charge Khadananda Neupane also said it was not an epidemic.

Meanwhile, Shrestha on Monday said medical teams had left for both villages with necessary medicines.

Auxiliary Health Workers Kali Bahadur Shahi and Hari Bhakta Shahi are leading the teams in Raya and Syada respectively.

After more patients were reported from Raya, a separate team led by Dr Chhabi Banstola was also deployed.

Meanwhile, health posts of concerned villages said they did not have sufficient medicines against the diseases.

Auxiliary Nurse Midwife Belsari Budha at the Raya Health Post said the medicine stock ran out at her facility as the concerned authorities failed to deliver medicines on time.
