10 scribes held, freed

Kavre, June 22:

Police arrested 10 journalists from a programme organised at the local Tribhuvan Chwok in Banepa on Wednesday. They were later released at 8. 55 pm.

Meanwhile, demanding a full democracy and shouting slogans against active monarchy, workers and supporters of seven agitating parties staged a protest rally in Birtamod of Jhapa today.

In another development, journalists of Pokhara, demanding press freedom, organised a sit-in on the main road in Pokhara today. The programme is a part of the second phase of the movement launched by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) for the restoration of press freedom.

Minister of Information and Communications, Tanka Dhakal, has called on the media to stand on the national pedestal and work for the nation, nationality, crown and democracy, a report from Kathmandu stated.
